James Monroe was born in Westmoreland
county, Virginia.
Monroe served as Secretary of State
from November 1811 until March 1817, which means that the
War of 1812 was one of his
priorities.
His was the
Monroe
Doctrine, which he introduced in his speech to Congress on
December 2, 1823.
