Document Description
Birth certificate of Francisco
I. Madero.
The birth certificate provides clarity on Madero's middle name. While it's widely believed that Madero's middle
initial "I" stood for Indalecio, his birth certificate reveals that it actually stood for Ignacio.
Interestingly, the birth certificate shows that "Ignacio" was written with an archaic spelling of "Ygnacio", which
offers a glimpse into the naming conventions and orthography of the time.
Madero's birth certificate indirectly highlights his privileged background. As the first-born son of Francisco Ignacio
Madero Hernández and Mercedes González Treviño, and the first grandson of Evaristo Madero, Francisco I. Madero was born
into one of Mexico's wealthiest families.
This background would later prove crucial in providing resources for his revolutionary activities.
