Africa has become completely free.

Liberia, Africa's oldest independent republic established by freed American slaves, was the first independent country on the continent, having declared its independence on July 26, 1847.

Most of Africa's decolonization spanned from the mid-1950s to 1975, coinciding with the Cold War.

While some countries achieved independence relatively peacefully, many others experienced severe violence.

For instance, the Algerian War resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths, while the Nigerian Civil War (Biafran War) led to nearly two million deaths due to famine and conflict. The Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya also saw substantial casualties, with estimates suggesting that over 11,000 Kenyans were killed by British forces.
