Laozi, also spelled Lao-tzu,
was a Chinese philosopher and founder of
Daoism, also spelled
Taoism.
To this effect, Laozi wrote down
his teachings, which became known as the Daodejing.
Or so it is traditionally assumed.
Dao means way.
Laozi means The Old
Master.
Laozi was
Li Er, a custodian of the imperial archives,
or a scribe, and his home was the state of Zhou, or Chu, in
modern Hunan Province.
After his death, Li Er became
known as Li Dan.
Laozi in a Nutshell
In an arrogant attempt to sum up
Laozi's ideas in a few words, we could say that he
recommended to embrace life as it is, and not to argue with
it.
