English Civil Wars 1642-1651
The English Civil Wars, or also in singular The English Civil War,
was or were also called The Great Rebellion.
|
Generally, the English Civil Wars are
divided into the
First Civil War,
1642 - 1646,
the Second Civil War,
1647 - 1648,
and the Third Civil War,
1650 - 1651.
Who Fought the English
Civil Wars?
The English Civil Wars were
fought by King
Charles I
and the royalists aka The Cavaliers vs.
Parliamentarians aka The Roundheads,
Oliver Cromwell
was one of them.
The rebels in Scotland were called
Covenanters.
Parliament didn't share the view of King
Charles I in general, neither did they appreciate the King's
unlawful taxation policies.
In 1645, Charles and his Royalists were
defeated and Charles was taken prisoner.
Mr Oliver Cromwell convinced everyone
that Charles was actually a traitor to his own people and people
made Cromwell king but called him Lord Protector.
