Charles V and the
Schmalkaldic League.
Why was the Schmalkaldic War fought?
Religion. The Schmalkaldic League was
established in Schmalkalden, Germany, by Protestant German princes,
an alliance against Roman Catholic Charles V, who wanted his realm
to be united and Catholic. The date? February 1531.
With his victory at the Battle of Muhlberg in April 24, 1547, Charles dissolved the Schmalkaldic
League.
