What was the cause of the War of the
Austrian Succession?
But it actually all started with a Spaniard
cutting of Robert Jenkin's ear in April 1731, which led to the
War of
Jenkins' Ear, which in turn became part of the War of
the Austrian Succession. The War of Jenkins' Ear begun in October
1739.
The
first
and second Silesian War were part of the War of the Austrian
Succession.

KING GEORGE'S WAR 1744-1748
The North American extension of
the War of the Austrian Succession is called King George's War, or the Third French and
Indian War.

Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle was the concluding treaty for this
war.
OUTCOME of the war
Charles's daughter,
Maria Theresa,
lost some territories.
Maria's husband,
formerly Francis Stephen of Lorraine, was made Holy Roman emperor
and was henceforward known as Francis I.

Siege of Tournai - April
30 - May 22, 1745
Tournai was defended by a Dutch garrison of 7,000 troops. They faced
a besieging French army of 21,000 troops. The French prevailed.
Battle of Fontenoy - May 11, 1745
Victory of the French.
Very narrow victory for France.
Both teams had a force of approx. 50,000 troops. And both camps had
casualties of approx. between 7,000 and 7,500, and deaths each of
approx. 2,500.
