The bloodiest battle ever fought

What was the bloodiest battle ever fought? Opinions differ. Some suggest it was the Battle of Stalingrad, which lasted from August 1942 until February 2, 1943. The Germans were defeated. Estimated total losses were 1,900,000 deaths: 1,100,000 Soviets and 800,000 Axis losses (Germans, Romanians, Italians, and Hungarians.)

Against Hitler's orders, German Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus surrendered to the Soviet forces with his remaining 91,000 troops. Paulus later testified at the International Military Tribunal at Nurnberg. The Battle of Stalingrad was a turning point in
 WWII.

The largest tank battle in history

That was the Battle of Kursk (July 5 - August 23, 1943). German troops vs. Soviet troops in  World War II. Involved were 6,000 tanks, 2 million troops and 4,000 aircraft. The Germans lost.

History's greatest military leader

Who was the greatest military leader in history? It depends on whom you ask.

Hannibal thought it was Pyrrhus.

Napoleon thought it was  Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne.

HIGHEST SIEGE TOWERS EVER USED IN WAR

According to author Werner Keller, it was  Alexander the Great who ordered the construction of some very high towers to get over the city walls of Tyre.

Keller writes, "A drawbridge on the front of the towers enabled a surprise attack to be made on the enemy’s walls. They were the highest siege towers ever used in the history of war. Each of them had twenty stories and the topmost platform towered, at a height of over 160 feet, far above the highest city walls."

THE MOST OUTNUMBERED BATTLE

One of the most outnumbered battles ever fought was the  Battle of Thermopylae.

THE WORLD'S LARGEST SCULPTURE

The world's largest sculpture is the one of  Crazy Horse in South Dakota. Crazy Horse's face is a nine-story-high. The art work was started in 1948 and is still in progress. This is the  website of the Crazy Horse Memorial.

Silbury Hill

EUROPE'S LARGEST
PREHISTORIC MAN-MADE CONSTRUCTION

... is Silbury Hill in Wiltshire, England. It's a mound 130 feet or 40 meters high. Nobody knows why people built it but there it is. Sillbury Hill is located about 19 miles or 30 kilometers north of Stonehenge. Experts say, Silbury Hill is 4,400 years old, which makes it even older than Stonehenge.

They also believe that the mound originally featured a domed top and that the top had been flattened much later.

THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IN COMPARATIVE TERRITORIAL RESOURCES

. . . in a battle ever fought is probably the  Battle of Marathon where wee Attica took on the ruling world power, the  Persian Empire - and won.

THE LARGEST REVOLUTIONARY ARMY IN LATIN AMERICA

In his book The Life & Times of Pancho Villa, author Friedrich Katz speculates that, "Pancho Villa's División del Norte was probably the largest revolutionary army that Latin America ever produced." At its peak, Villa commanded 50,000 troops.

Here is more about  Pancho Villa.

THE BEST SPEECH EVER

The greatest speech in history by the greatest orator in the world was On the Crown by  Demosthenes. Who says?

Encyclopaedia Britannica states that this speech has been termed as such, and that's good enough for us.

THE LONGEST RETREAT IN MILITARY HISTORY

The longest retreat in U.S. military history took place during the  Korean War.

Let's have the United States Military Academy Department of History enlighten us:

"Korean War: November 3, 1950 - January 1951
With the U.N. forces pursuing the NLPA and fanning at across the expanding front in North Korea, the CCF (Chinese Communist Forces) launched a surprise attack with over 200,000 men. This caused the longest retreat in U.S. military history. Again Seoul fell to the enemy."

And here is the map:
