Buddha, formerly known
as Siddhartha Gautama (or
Gotama), lived round about or in-between
the 6th and the 4th century B.C.
He was
born in India and became the founder of Buddhism.
Buddhism
became a world religion but is mostly found in Asian countries.
Buddha means awakened one or
enlightened one in Sanskrit.
What in the world is
Sanskrit?
Therefore, to become a Buddhist means
to become enlightened. In the teachings of Buddhism are more buddhas,
not only the Buddha Gautama. Some Buddhists think
that everyone has the potential to become a buddha.
Buddha statues
vary. Here is one from Narita, Japan.
