Isabella I 1451-1504
Also called Isabella the Catholic, this lady was the Queen
of Castile from 1474 to 1504 and the Queen of Aragon from 1479
to 1504.
Isabella's
Family
Isabella's father was
John II of
Castile. Isabella's mother was Isabella of Portugal.
Isabella's half-brother was Henry IV. Her younger brother was
Alfonso.
Her husband became
Ferdinand II of Aragon aka Ferdinand V
of Castile. They ruled together from 1479 and were granted the
title Catholic Kings by Pope Greed Personified
Alexander VI.
Ferdinand's father was John II of Aragon.
Isabella's children were Juan,
Isabella, and Joan.

Isabella's Life
Isabella saw quite some action during her reign. She started her
job as a ruler amidst civil war. And talk about major political
events, Isabella had her share:
In 1478, the
Spanish Inquisition began.
When her father-in-law died, Spain became officially united.
In other words, 1479 - Union of the Christian kingdoms of Spain
under Ferdinand and Isabella.
In January of 1492, Granada, the last Muslim stronghold, was
re-conquered by Ferdinand and Isabella, and end of the Moorish
dominion in Spain.
In April of 1492, plans were made for
Columbus' voyage.
Columbus discovers the New World.
In 1494, the New World was split between
Portugal and Spain, as agreed with the
Treaty of
Tordesillas.
