Caesar's Campaigns in Gaul - The Gallic Wars

Illustrating:

Caesar's Attack

Caesar launched a surprise attack against a weakly defended sector of Gergovia's walls after taking a hill near the city. This sector was lightly defended because of Caesar's feint earlier in the day.

The Romans successfully captured this portion of the wall, but were unable to pour through it due to the Gauls' superior position and strong defense just behind the wall.
