During most of this period, the 5th and 6th Panzer Armies were
not in the line as shown here.
In an elaborate deception scheme to "hide" headquarters, the
Germans shifted command
groups about, while the two panzer armies were collecting units
and outfitting for the
December Ardennes counter-offensive. The creation of Army Group
H was part of this.
