Saint.
He ruled as king of France from 1226
to 1270.
The Family of Louis IX
Louis father was King Louis VIII.
Louis mother was Blanche
of Castile.
In 1234, Louis married Margaret, daughter of
the count of Provence.
The Life of Louis IX
Upon the death of his father, Louis became king when he was only 12
years old.
His mother ruled for him until 1234. She had to shoo
away many characters who took advantage of the situation
and tried to sit on the throne themselves.
For the first time under Louis, there existed two
maréchaux
de france at the same time.
In 1248, Louis piloted the
Seventh Crusade.
In 1259, Louis concluded the Treaty of Paris with English
Henry III, which resolved territorial issues.
In 1270, Louis was ready for the Eighth Crusade, but died very
early in the campaign.
Louis' son, Philip III, became his successor.
