Mustafa Kemal Atatürk 1881-1938
Atatürk means "Father of the Turks".
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was the first president of the Republic of
Turkey. As such he was in office from 1923 - 1938. Historians refer
to him as the founder of modern Turkey.
As a soldier, Mustafa served his country, the
Ottoman
Empire, during
World War I
where he caused
Winston Churchill
considerable headache.
