Mujibur Rahman 1920-1975
From 1972 to 1975,
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, or short Sheikh Mujib, was
the first prime minister of Bangladesh, formerly East Pakistan,
before that East Bengal.
In January 1975 he became president of
Bangladesh.

ASSASSINATION
In August 1975, Rahman was assassinated
in his home, together with his wife and three sons. One daughter, Hasina, was out
of the country at the time and thus survived. The assassins were
Bangladeshi soldiers.
In 1996, Hasina (Sheikh Hasina Wazed) became prime minister
herself.
