Otilio E. Montaño 1877-1917
Otilio worked in Yautepec when he met
Amador Salazar,
Zapata's cousin.
Otilio had a solid voice, so when the
Plan of Luis Potosi was read in Villa de Ayala, he yelled
"¡Abajo las Haciendas y Vivan los Pueblos!", Down with the
haciendas, long live the towns. The date? March 11, 1911.

From then on Otilio tried to become a
soldier for the Revolution. Together with José Trinidad Ruiz,
he formulated the
Plan of Ayala, which Emiliano Zapata had thought up in the
first place.
Otilio E. Montaño became an important
man for the Liberation Army of the South, or Ejército Libertador
del Sur. Zapata made him the
head of his delegation to the Revolutionary Convention of
Aguascalientes in 1914. But Montaño got sick and Paulino Martínez
was appointed head of delegation instead.
In January 1914, Montaño was sent to the
state of Guerrero. On January 18, Montaño signed a treaty with
General Julián Blanco, by which the latter committed himself to
the Plan of Ayala.
From June 15 to July 29, 1915, Montano
was the Secretary of Public Instructions.
After a revolt among revolutionaries
Montaño was charged with treason and got executed.
