When Did the War of
the Fourth Coalition Begin? When Did it End?
The War of the Fourth
Coalition begun on October 8, 1806, and ended with the
Treaty of Tilsit on July
9, 1807.
The War of the Fourth
Coalition Builds
On December 26, 1805, the War of the
Third Coalition had been concluded with the
Treaty of
Pressburg.
On August 6, 1806, Emperor Francis II
gave up his title as Holy Roman Emperor. He remained the Emperor of
Austria, the King of Hungary, and the King of Bohemia.
On September 25, 1806, Prussia sends
an ultimatum to France. The Prussians demand, among other things,
that all French troops east of the Rhine River
had to be withdrawn immediately. An answer was expected by October 8, 1806, or else.
This ultimatum reaches Paris on
October 1, 1806.
Napoleon, who had left Paris on
September 25, 1806, to join his army in Bavaria, received this
ultimatum on October 7, 1806.
