Holy Roman Empire 800-1806
Go
here for the
Roman Empire.
Let's start with a Voltaire quote from 1769:
Ce corps qui
s'appelait et qui s'appelle encore le saint
empire romain n'ètait en aucune maniére ni
saint, ni romain, ni empire.
In other
words:
This
agglomeration which was called and which
still calls itself the Holy Roman Empire was
neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire.

That out of the way, here are
the rulers of the Holy Roman Empire from 800 until 1806:
The Beginning of the Holy Roman Empire
Some say, the Holy Roman Empire was set up in 962, not in 800.
What's the difference? Some see the Carolingian Empire as part of
the Holy Roman Empire, some don't.
In the year 800,
Charlemagne was crowned emperor and the Carolingian Empire was
established.
In the year 962,
Otto I was crowned
emperor and the Ottonian Empire
was established.
See here for more on the
Carolingian Dynasty.
Dynasties of the Holy Roman Empire
The
Hohenstaufen Dynasty ruled
1138-1208 and again 1212-1254.

Holy Roman Empire and joined the Confederation. More states joined
later.
Holy Roman Emperor
Francis II
ran out of steam and officially quit his job on August 6, 1806. The
Holy Roman Empire was history.
