League of Augsburg 1686-1689
The League of Augsburg was a coalition
in the
War of the Grand Alliance.
Holy Roman Emperor
Leopold I led the
pact and Bavaria, the Palatinate, Saxony, Sweden, and Spain
followed.
The League of Augsburg was formed on
July 9, 1686. Its purpose was to counter French King
Louis XIV.
In 1689, a new league was formed, the
Grand Alliance.
