300 (2006)
Title: 300
Year: 2006
Director: Zach Snyder
Historical Background
Go here for the real
Battle of Thermopylae, fought
in 480 BC.
And here is more on the real
Xerxes I and his invasion of
Greece.
IMBD gives the following trivia:
The movie 300 is based on Frank
Miller's graphic novel. Frank Miller, in turn, was inspired by
the movie
The 300 Spartans
from 1962.
The entire movie was shot in only 60
days. Shooting locations were Montreal and Los Angeles.
How Close to the
Facts?
Not very.
The movie never claims to be historically correct, so IMBD,
and Director Zack Snyder says that fighting styles and formations
(particularly the Spartan's phalanx) were purposefully changed -
making them historically inaccurate - so they'd "look cool" and work
better for movie purposes.
