Confucius is also spelled
K'ung Ch'iu,
K'ung-fu tzu, or
Kongfuzi.
His mother called him Qiu. Their
family name was Kong. Kongfuzi means Master Kong.
Confucius was Chinese, born in Qufu,
which was located in the state of Lu,
today's Shandong province.
Traditionally, Confucius'
birthday is observed on September 28.
He became a government
official but switched to teaching some years later.
Confucius became China's most
famous teacher and philosopher.
