The Hyksos moved into Egypt during the
18th century BC.
They adapted nicely, set up
headquarters at Avaris, and decided to rule Egypt as its 15th
dynasty.
Avaris, by the way, was located near
the modern Tell el-Dab'a in the
northeastern region of the Nile Delta.

Why Hyksos?
The Greek word Hyksos can be
traced to the Egyptian term hiq shasu, which means ruler
of nomads or shepherd kings.
Manetho thought that this was correct.
Alternatively we could also go back to heqa khoswe, which means
chief of foreign lands.
Either way, the guys
weren't local.
