As a country, Mexico went through a lot
especially during the first few decades of the 1900s (see
Mexican Revolution).
In a nutshell, the power and influence
of the Roman Catholic Church had been severely cut back. It reached
a point were the peasants took up arms in defense of the Church.
Miguel Pro Juarez (Miguel Pro
Juárez) was one of the Mexican Jesuit priests who was executed by
presidential order.
The president in question was Plutarco Elías
Calles.
