Treaty of San Ildefonso 1800
On October 1,
1800, the secret Treaty of San Ildefonso was
signed between France and Spain.
With this treaty the Spanish signed
the Louisiana territory over to France.
The U.S. wasn't too tickled about it.
In 1803, however,
Napoleon decided
to sell the whole thing to the States and that deal became known as
the
Louisiana Purchase.

Treaty of San Ildefonso of
1796.
