The Cuban Missile Crisis had the
planet's entire population on their toes because nuclear war was in the air.
What Had Happened?
In a nutshell,
Cuban head of state
Fidel Castro's latest idea was to park Soviet nuclear weapons that could target major US cities
on his island.

Cuban Missile Crisis, delivered on October 22, 1962.
JFK decided to
cut off fresh Soviet supplies and had his
Navy blockade Cuba. Tension took on a new meaning.
Six days and many fast heartbeats later, US President Kennedy and Soviet
leader
Nikita Khrushchev reached an agreement. Soviet
missiles would be withdrawn from Cuba if the US would withdraw their
missiles from Turkey and never invade Cuba.
Fidel was not happy.
But the planet survived to tell the tale.
