Stone Age
The Stone Age was a time span in so-called pre-history* that was
named after its characteristic use of stone tools.
All in all, the Stone Age covers
roughly the time period from 2,500,000 years ago until 2000
BC.

Events that took place before history was
recorded, or written, are prehistoric.
Here follows an approximate
timeline. Dates overlap and vary greatly depending
on location.
The Stone Age can be divided
into the following three chapters, eras, or periods:
The Paleolithic Age
Also spelled Palaeolithic Age, and
also called the Old Stone Age.
The Paleolithic Age stretches roughly from
2,500,000 years ago until 6000 BC.
The Paleolithic Age is divided into the
Lower
Paleolithic Period, about
2,500,000 to 40,000 years ago, and the
Upper
Paleolithic Period, about
40,000 years ago until about 8000 BC or 6000
BC.
The Mesolithic Age
Also called the Epipaleolithic Age,
the Mesolithic Period, or the
Middle Stone Age.
The Mesolithic Period stretches approx. from
8000 BC until 2700 BC.
The Neolithic Age
Also called the Neolithic Period, or
the New Stone Age.
The Neolithic Age stretches roughly from
7000 BC or 2700 BC until 2000 BC.
After the Stone Age came:
The Bronze Age
The Bronze Age covers roughly the years from 3500 BC or 2000 BC until
1200 BC, depending on the location.
The Iron Age
