Claudius was Roman emperor from AD 41
to 54, and as such called Tiberius
Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus.
He was born Tiberius Claudius
Drusus Nero Germanicus on August 1, 10 BC, in in Lugdunum,
Gaul, today's Lyon, France.
Claudius' father was Drusus. His
mother was Antonia, the younger.
Claudius became emperor on January 24,
41.
In the year 43, and under Claudius' rule, the Romans commenced the
conquest of Britain.
The population of this island was then Celtic.

In about forty years all the tribes south of the Clyde were subdued,
and their land made a Roman province, Britannia.
