Diana 1961-1997
Lady Di was born Diana Frances Spencer
at Park House, Sandringham, Norfolk, England.
On July 29, 1981, Diana married
Charles
at St. Paul's Cathedral, an outrageously huge media event that would
only be topped by the coverage of her funeral.
Prince William was born on June 21,
1982.
Prince Henry was born on September 15,
1984.
In July 1997, Diana met Dodi Fayed.
On August 30, 1997, Dodi and Diana
arrived in Paris, France, with photographers on their heels.
On August 31, 1997, shortly after
midnight, the two left the Ritz Hotel through a back door and in a
Mercedes, but the paparazzi spotted them and followed them on
motorcycles. This led to a high speed car chase.
Their driver, Henry Paul, drove into
Pont de l'Alma tunnel at high speed to lose the pursuers, but he
lost control over the car, and crashed into a cement pylon. Dodi and
the driver died instantly.
Diana was brought to La
Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital and at 4 a.m., after two hours of surgery
and heart massage, she was pronounced dead.
The fourth passenger in the car,
bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones, was unconscious for two weeks but
eventually recovered. He wore a seat-belt.
Police found the driver's blood-alcohol
content was 0.175, over three times the legal limit.
Diana's funeral was held on September 6,
1997. Diana's brother, Charles Edward Maurice Spencer, the
ninth Earl, delivered the eulogy.
