Helen Adams Keller was born in Alabama.
When she was 19 months old, she became
blind, deaf, and mute due to an illness.
When she was 6 years old, she was
brought to Anne Sullivan, a teacher for the blind.
Together, the two ladies accomplished
astonishing things.

Equally amazed was Hollywood and
made a movie out of Helen Keller's life, focusing on Anne
Sullivan's point of view.
The Miracle
Worker, 1962, won both actresses, Anne Bancroft as Annie
Sullivan in a leading role and Patty Duke as Helen Keller in
a supporting role, one Oscar each. Costume design, director,
and screen writer were also nominated.
