North Vietnam wanted a unified Vietnam with South Vietnam under a
communist government. South Vietnam didn't.

What Were the Casualties?
North Vietnam lost 2 million civilians and 1.1 million soldiers.
South Vietnam lost 2 million civilians and 250,000 soldiers.
The US lost 58,200 soldiers (some of
them Canadians.)
South Korea lost 4,000 soldiers.
Thailand lost 350 soldiers.
Australia lost 500 soldiers.
New Zealand lost 40 soldiers.
