Henry Rawlinson 1810-1895
This man was a bright Assyriologist. He deciphered the Persian part
of the
Bisitun Rock.
Rawlinson was born at Chadlington, Oxfordshire, and joined the East
India Company in 1827.
In 1833 he was transferred to Iran in order to reorganize the
Persian army.
In 1843 he became the British Consul to Baghdad and in 1855 he
became Sir Rawlinson.
Henry's brother was George Rawlinson.
Henry's wife was Louisa Caroline.
