Mary Eliza Church Terrell 1863-1954
Mary Eliza Church was born in Memphis,
Tennessee.
In 1896, Mary Church Terrell became the
first president of the NACW, the National Association of Colored
Women.
On October 10, 1906, Mary Church Terrell
delivered her speech, titled
What It Means to Be Colored in the Capital of the United States
at the United Women's Club in Washington D.C.
