The Act
of Union takes effect. Ireland and Great Britain (England
and Scotland) are now
a United Kingdom.
January 16, 1801
Austrian Emperor Francis II
dismisses
Baron Thugut
from his post as Austrian's
State Chancellor.
Count Cobenzl becomes his
successor.
Together with
Colloredo
and Francis himself, these three
men will be at the head of all foreign
affairs of the Empire until
1805.
February 9, 1801
Peace of
Luneville.
Austria is forced to officially
cede the territory left of the
Rhine River to France, and to
compensate the German princes.

It is Wednesday, and the third president of the United States,
Thomas Jefferson, delivers his
Inaugural Address.
We don't know it yet, but this is his

French troops invade Portugal, a prelude of the
War of the Oranges which
will officially commence on May 19, 1801.
May 19, 1801
Spanish troops invade Portugal, joining the French invasion force.
The
War of the Oranges has
begun. It will end on June 6, 1801.
June 6, 1801
The
Treaty of Badajoz ends the
War of the Oranges. This
treaty will be ratified at Madrid on September 29, 1801.
July 15, 1801
Concordat
of 1801 between
France (Napoleon) and the
Vatican.
July 31, 1801
After revision, the
Treaty of Morfontaine, also called the Treaty of
Friendship and Commerce, is ratified by the United States and
France. It had been concluded on September 30, 1800.
September 2, 1801
French General
Jacques Menou surrenders at Alexandria. The
Egyptian Campaign ends.
September 29, 1801
At Madrid, the
Treaty of Badajoz, which was
concluded on June 6, 1801, and which ended the
War of the Oranges is
ratified.
December 27, 1801
Lucca Republic
established.
